Gateway NV50A DC Power Jack Repair

This NV50A gateway laptop came in with the classic symptoms of being able to hold the tip of the power cord at just the right angle to get it to charge and power the battery.  This means the dc-in jack isn't making a good connection and needs replacement.
The NV50a is similar to and uses the same power plug as the NV53A and some NV59 notebooks.
It uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard but you can also buy the dc jack and solder a new one on the reusable cable.
Once torn down to the motherboard the ground wire was disconnected form the jack causing the failure (see picture).
Once the jack was replaced the laptop powers on and charge the battery again!

Samsung RV520 DC Power Jack Repair

This Samsung RV520 came in with a physically broken power plug.  The customer reported tripping over the power cord and breaking the connection.  As you can see in the picture the circular barrel that was there has been completely ripped out and needs replacement.
We perform the ac plug repair for $65 parts and labor +$20 return shipping if needed.
The RV520 needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard and requires soldering.  If you don't have a quality iron and skills in soldering I would recommend not trying this on your own.
The Samsung uses a 7 pin style dc jack that's soldered directly to the motherboard.
Once replaced, the laptop powers on and works great!

Samsung NP700Z5B DC Power Jack Repair

This Samsung NP700Z5B came in with a physically broken power plug.  The customer reported tripping over the cord and the laptop falling from a small table.  The all plastic internal dc jack basically shattered inside the notebook and needs replacement.
Its uses a 7 pin dc jack that is soldered directly to the motherboard.  The NP700 series also needs to be completely  torn down to the main board level and have the board removed properly to perform the repair.
This model falls under our standard $65 parts and labor rate but this customer needed the $99 same day turn around time.  We were able to overnight the laptop back for about $80 via Fed Ex.
Once the jack was replaced the laptop powers on and did a full battery charge.

Dell Inspiron 17R, N7010, P08E DC Power Jack Repair

The Dell Inspiron 17R N7010 is the 17" version of the common N5010 laptops we work on with the power jack problems.  These N5010 is a soldered on dc plug and the N7010 is a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard.  We perform the replacement of the damaged power jack for $65 parts and labor.
This N7010 had a physically broken input and needed replacement.  The notebook needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access and replace the broken plug.  It's held in by a plastic housing built into the bottom casing of the laptop and also held in by a single screw.  Once replaced, the laptop powers and on and has a brand new internal dc connection.

Asus X53U Broken DC Jack

This Asus X53U came in with a physically broken power plug.  The notebook also had some cosmetic damage due to the fall near the jack area.  It uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard.  The chassis on this model is very similar to the Acer 5740 and gateway NV53a laptops that are also notorious for needed a dc jack repair.
The X53U needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard level to access the dc jack.  Once replaced the laptop charges the battery and powers on properly.

HP NX 7400 DC Power Jack Repair

HP NX7400 DC Jack Repair
This HP NX7400 came in with a physically broken power plug.  The circular barrel was completely missing and needs replacement.  This is a not an easy solder job and I would highly recommend going with a professional that has worked on this model and is familiar with what it needs soldering wise.
It uses a seven pin jack that many dell laptops (N5010, E5510) use.  The location of the jack makes it difficult to de-solder and doesn't have much room for error.
After the replacement the notebook charges the battery and powers on again.

Sony Vaio VGN-CS118E DC Power Jack Repair

SONY VGN-CS118E DC Jack Repair
This sony VGN-CS118E laptop came in with a broken power plug.  On most Sony notebooks the small plastic circular barrel is missing and the two ground wires are exposed.  This means the dc jack will need to be replaced.
The CS118E needs to be almost completely taken apart to access the dc jack.  It uses a cable style connection with a dc jack soldered on the end.  We just de-solder the old broken tip and re-use the cable.  This is a very effective way to do it and let's us repair the jack for $65 instead of $85+.
If soldering isn't an option you could replace the entire cable style jack.  Once the jack is replaced the laptop is working like new again!

Gateway NV59 with a Broken DC Jack

Gateway NV59 dc jack repair
The gateway NV Series laptops are very common ones we see in our shop.  Now that gateway is owned by Acer they use the problematic six pin, 1.65mm dc jack Acer has been using for years.  The center voltage pin is very small and any hard use or slight stress can cause the jack to physically break like the picture shows.
The NV59 needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the dc plug.  It needs to be properly de-soldered and a new power jack installed.  If you don't have a good soldering iron this repair isn't recommended.
For $65 we replace the broken connection and get it like new again.

Toshiba Satellite L755 DC Power Jack Repair

This Toshiba L755 notebook came in with a very broken dc jack.  The customer reported tripping over the cord and physically breaking the power plug.  The casing that surrounds the jack inside and out was broken and needed to be glued back in place.  If available you could also replace the bottom casing instead of gluing.
The L755 is very similar to the L655 but with updated hardware like a Core i3 cpu and more.
The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack.  It uses a cable style power jack that plugs directly into the motherboard.  You could also just replace the tip of the cable jack if the cable is still intact but this requires soldering.
After the jack was replaced and the housing fixed the L755 powers on and charges the battery again.  We do this entire jack replacement service for $65 parts and labor.

Dell Inspiron 11z DC Power Jack Repair

The dell inspiron 11z is a 11" lcd netbook.  The one thing I don't like about this laptop is the lack of hard drive activity light and kinda cheap plastic casing.
This 11z came in with the power plug pushed back inside the laptop.  It uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard.  It needs to be completely taken apart down the main board to access the jack.
On this 11z the plastic housing that holds the dc jack into place was broken and needed a special glue to hold everything back in place.
The 11z falls under our standard $65 parts and labor rate.  Once put back together the notebook powers on and charges the battery again.

Toshiba L555 DC Power Jack Repair

The toshiba L555 laptop is just the L505 but with a larger 17" screen. It also uses a different power plug than the L505.
The customer reported no power to the laptop and suspected the dc jack. When I initially plugged it in it didn't feel overly loose or broken. I couldn't get it to power on off of AC or battery power.
The L555 notebook needs to be completely taken apart and the motherboard removed to access the dc jack.
It uses a cable style dc jack but unlike many other Toshiba laptops it's soldered directly onto the motherboard vs. being plugged in.
It has four solder points that need to be properly de-soldered and a new jack soldered on. If you don't have the proper skills or tools this is something you shouldn't attempt.
Once replaced the laptop works like new again!

Dell XPS L502X DC Power Jack Repair

This Dell XPS L502X laptop came in with a physically broken dc jack. The customer reported dropping the laptop from a low level onto the power cord area while plugged in. The laptop would still work on AC when plugged in but wouldn't charge the battery. Upon start up a message would appear that the ac adapter type can't be identified but it would still run the laptop.
The L502z notebook needs to be completely taken apart to access the power plug. It uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard. The cable jack is uses is kind of rare so the total was $105 with parts and labor.
After the laptop was taken apart it was confirmed the jack was physically broken and needed brand new replacement.
Once replaced the laptop powers and charges the battery.

Asus G74S/SX DC Power Jack Repair

This Asus G74 laptop came in with a loose dc jack. You could hold the tip of the ac adapter in just the right angle to get the laptop to power on. We can replace the dc jack for $65 parts and labor on this model.
The G74 is similar to the G73 but with a larger screen. It needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the power plug. It's also soldered directly onto the motherboard so the proper skills and tools are needed for this model.
When I got down to the motherboard I could see the obvious oxidation of the voltage pin. The G74 uses a six pin, 2.5mm jack that the G73 uses. Like 99% of laptops we de-solder the bad jack and re-solder a new one on for a solid, like new condition.
Once the jack is replaced the laptop powers on and charges the battery again.

Asus G53 DC Power Jack Repair

The Asus G53 laptops are large gaming laptops and are very similar to the G73 series. I see a lot of these G53 and G73 laptops in for repair. We did atleast five of them in the month of March. Most commonly what I see is the missing center pin that breaks off inside the power cord tip.
It can be quite the task to disassemble a G53 or G73 and should only be done if you know what you're doing.
The notebook needs to be completely taken apart and the old power plug de-soldered from the motherboard. It uses a five pin dc jack that comes in 1.65mm and 2.5mm. The 2.5mm center pin is the more common of the two.
Once the power jack is replaced the laptop works like new again!

Toshiba NB505 DC Power Jack Repair

This toshiba NB505 laptop came in with no power. I couldn't wiggle the power cord tip to get it to come on. It wasn't very loose either so I wasn't very hopeful for a successful repair. Once the laptop was taken apart the ground wire had some unsoldered from the dc jack and needed replacement.
The toshiba NB505 uses a cable style dc jack that is soldered onto the motherboard. It needs to be completely taken apart to access the power plug. Soldering is required so don't do this repair without the proper skills and tools.
Once the dc jack was fixed the laptop powers on and charges like new again.

Gateway NV53A DC Power Jack Repair

We keep seeing more gateway NV53a and Acer 5740 series laptops on for plug replacement. The dc jack is usually pushed back inside the laptop and needs to be replaced. The bottom plastic that holds the hinge screws in place is usually broken due the flimsy design Acer has manufactured. Depending on the damage we can sometimes glue the plastic back in place to make is functional.
The NV53a uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard. Sometimes the plastic housing that holds the cable plug into place is also broken and needs to be glued back together. No matter what the dc jack issue is with your NV53a we can get it up and running for $65 parts and labor.
After the jack is replaced the gateway powers on and charges the battery again.

Asus G73S/J/SW/JW DC Power Jack Repair

I keep seeing more and more of the Asus G53/73 series laptops in for jack repair. The two most common symptoms are a loose connection where you plug in the power cord. I can hold the tip of the ac adapter at just the angle to get the notebook to charge and power on. The other symptom is the missing center pin from the power plug itself. If your Asus laptop has any of these symptoms we can replace the power jack for $65 parts and labor.
The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack and is soldered on by six points on this 2.5mm input. It's soldered directly to the main board so the proper tools and skills are needed for this repair.
Once we replaced the loose connection the laptop powers on and charges like new again.

Dell Inspiron N5110 DC Power Jack Repair

The Dell Inspiron N5110 is much like the N5010 and M5010 laptops. The difference is the N5110 has a Core i7 cpu and much higher voltage demands. They both use the same 7 pin, circular barrel power plug dell and hp use.
The N5110 notebook needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack. It's also soldered directly to the motherboard so proper soldering skills and tools will be needed.
In most N series power jack failures I see the circular barrel of the plug break and or fall out of the laptop. What's left is the shiny copper pieces that when plugged in feels very loose when it should be very snug.
We do the jack replacement for our standard $65 parts and labor rate. Once the input connection is fixed the laptop powers on properly again.

Lenovo Edge E420/E520 DC Power Jack Repair

This is a very new Lenovo laptop and is still being sold on there website. It has the typical looking yellow dc jack Lenovo is known for. I wasn't able to locate a dc jack for this model by searching the internet it's so new.
This E520 (same power plug as the E420) came in with a physically broken dc jack. The customer reported it being dropped on the input connection while plugged in. As you can see on the picture the jack is very damaged but can be fixed. It uses a circular barrel, 7 solder point power jack. The dc jack is located on a seperate I/O board but soldering is required. The laptop also needs to be completely taken apart to access the jack.
Once the part arrives we'll be replacing the broken plug.

Acer One D250-1165/KAV60 DC Power Jack Repair

This Acer One D250 laptop came in with the classic hold the adapter tip in just the right way to get the laptop to power on/charge the battery. If you let the power cord go the netbook shuts off.
The D250 netbook uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard. You can also buy just the tip of the dc plug and solder a new one on (that's usually where the break is).
The Acer needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack on this model. Once apart the red voltage wire was torn from the dc jack giving it no power. Once the cable was replaced the laptop works great!
You can watch a video of this repair here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2-9l32EZNk.

MSI S6000/MS-16D3 DC Power Jack Repair

This MSI S6000 laptop came in with a physically broken power plug. The customer reported plugging the power cord in and the dc input collapsing back into the laptop. On any physically broken jack it will need to be replaced not repaired. We replace 99% of the time anyway though.
The MS-16D3 has the standard five pin, 2.5mm dc jack that Asus and MSI have used for years. The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access the soldered on jack. Like others, the plug is located on a separate I/O board that plugs into the motherboard but it still needs soldering work done.
Once replaced the laptop works great!

HP 620 DC Power Jack Repair

This hp 620 laptop came in with a missing/broken center pin on the power plug. The pin you plug the power cord into is completely missing and needs to be replaced. The 620 needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the dc jack. It uses a six pin, 1.65mm dc jack that is soldered directly onto the motherboard. This one would be a challenge for someone with little laptop knowledge to get apart so make sure you have the proper skills and tools before taking this on.
Once put back together the notebook powers on and works great!

Acer Aspire 5332 DC Jack Repair

This Acer 5332 came in with a physically broken dc jack. It was pushed in to the side and obviously damaged. Unfortunately an individual attempted to solder the jack area and failed. It's to bad because usually this just hinders me from doing the best job I can on these solder repairs.
The Aspire 5332 uses a five pin, 1.65 mm dc jack that's soldered directly to the motherboard. The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack so the proper skills and tools are needed for a good repair job.
Once replaced the notebook powers on and charges the battery again!

Acer One D255/PAV70 DC Jack Repair

This Acer One laptop came in with the classic symptoms of being able to hold the dc jack in just the right place to get it to power on. The customer reported it being dropped while plugged in and landing on the power cord. If I hold the tip of the power cord in just the angle I can get it to charge and power up.
The Acer D255 uses a cable style dc jack that plugs into the motherboard. If you get the entire cable jack no soldering is required. I actually buy the tip of the dc jack and solder it on to the existing cable for this model.
The notebook needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the dc jack and replace. It falls under our standard $65 parts and labor to replace the plug.
Once replaced the laptop powers on and charges the battery again.

Gateway MS2252/P-7805u/FX DC Jack Repair

This Gateway P series laptop came in with a loose power plug connection. You could wiggle the tip of the ac adapter cord in just the right way to get it to power on. The dc jack has come loose from the mainboard and needs replacement.
The P-7805u needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the dc input. On this model it's located on a seperate i/o board that plugs directly into the motherboard. This board can also be replaced if it's damaged. The jack is soldered to this board so the proper skills and tools are needed for a good replacement job.
Once the jack is replaced the laptop works great and the power connection is solid again.

Toshiba L450 DC Power Jack Repair

The Toshiba Satellite L45o laptop is identical to the common L455 we see in every month. Like the L455 the dc plug is pushed back inside the laptop and the power cord can no longer connect properly.
Usually what this means is the plastic housing (bottom base of the notebook) is broken and the input jack is just hanging there. Sometimes it is the jack that's bad or both.
The L450 uses a cable style dc jack that's soldered onto the motherboard via four small pins. Sometimes you can reuse the cable and just solder a new plug in the tip of the cable.
The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack and requires the proper skills and tools. Like any laptop if you're not familiar with it you shouldn't try taking it apart.
Once repaired the laptop powers on and charges again.
We perform this service for $65 parts and labor.

Lenovo G550 DC Power Jack Repair

This Lenovo G550 notebook came in with a physically broken power port. The dc jack was pushed back inside the laptop so it couldn't charge or power on anymore.
The G550 uses a cable style input that plugs directly into the motherboard instead of being soldered on.
The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the broken socket. Once inside I see the plastic housing that holds the jack into place is also broken and needs to be glued back together like we do with many toshiba laptops.
We do this entire service with a new dc jack for $65 parts and labor. Once fixed the laptop powers on and charges the battery again!

Acer Aspire 5742 DC Power Jack Repair

This Acer Aspire 5742 laptop came in with no life whatsoever. When plugged in the jack area felt pretty solid but no amount of wiggling or positioning of the ac adapter would get it to power up. Sometimes they are wiggled so much the jack simply stops working. If you keep wiggling and positioning the power cord you do run the risk of damaging the motherboard.
In this notebook the dc jack is on a cable that plugs in the motherboard. Its the same laptop/power plug as some the gateway NV53A.
The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access and replace the dc jack. Once inside I saw the voltage wire on the cable had come free from the jack. This is why the laptop was getting no power at all.
The dc jack was replaced and the laptop powers on again!

Samsung R580 DC Power Jack Repair

I'm starting to see more and more Samsung laptops in for power jack repair. The use similar looking jacks to the sony laptops but are soldered directly on the motherboard instead of attached by a cable.
Just like the Sony notebooks the jacks are usually physically broken and the center plastic broken.
I don't really like the way they are all plastic and seem like they break very easily.
The Samsung R580 needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the dc jack. It is soldered directly on the motherboard so you need the proper skills and tools to de-solder and solder correctly.
Once the jack is replaced the laptop powers on and comes out of resume! Another successful repair.

Asus 1215N DC Power Jack Repair

The Asus 1215N notebook is a 12" EEE PC netbook from Asus. It uses the same small pin dc jack the 1005HA series use. Like many others this Asus came in with the missing pin from the power plug. Usually this means the cord was tripped over or the laptop had a small fall. For $65 parts and labor we can replace the dc jack and get the laptop up and running again.
The 1215N needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack and is soldered directly to the motherboard. Don't attempt this repair without the correct tools and knowledge.
Once the jack is replaced and put back together the laptop works great!

Sony VGN-AW130J DC Power Jack Repair

The Sony VGN-AW130J is a big laptop! Full 1080P screen with lots of ram and hard drive space.
It uses the same sony jacks as many other models so it susceptible to normal power plug problems. The owner reported tripping over the cord and the small plastic jack snapped. This notebook can be repaired for $85 parts and labor.
The AW series notebooks need to completely taken apart to access the dc jack that plugs into the motherboard via cable. We re-use the existing cable and solder a new power jack on the tip of the cable.
Once torn down we can de-solder the old broken jack off the cable and install a new one. After it's replaced and put back together the sony works great!
