Toshiba A75 DC Jack Repair

I keep seeing more and more of these laptops. They us the same problematic dc jack as the hp zv5000, Toshiba M35x, and many other common dc jack repair laptops.
You could position the ac adapter plug in just the right way to get the laptop to charge and power on.
When I got it all torn down I saw a burnt area on the motherboard near the dc jack voltage pin that wiped off with some contact cleaner.
Replacing the dc jack gave lots of new life to this A75 and will last for years to come under normal use.

Advice from an EE

When you replace these jacks, there are 2 critical things that MUST be done to ensure that you wont be in the case again for a few more years.

1. EPOXY the new jack base to the motherboard. Lightly rough the pad where it will sit and then solder it in.
If you don't, it will happen soon again as the positioning of the jack coupled with the stress of the connector are a design flaw. The solder pads on the pins are not enough to prevent it from happening again.

2. Use a calibrated soldering iron. Too much heat will melt the surface mounted caps and resistors around the base of the jack.

I do not see either of these requirements in your discussion.
