HP NX 7400 DC Power Jack Repair

HP NX7400 DC Jack Repair
This HP NX7400 came in with a physically broken power plug.  The circular barrel was completely missing and needs replacement.  This is a not an easy solder job and I would highly recommend going with a professional that has worked on this model and is familiar with what it needs soldering wise.
It uses a seven pin jack that many dell laptops (N5010, E5510) use.  The location of the jack makes it difficult to de-solder and doesn't have much room for error.
After the replacement the notebook charges the battery and powers on again.

Sony Vaio VGN-CS118E DC Power Jack Repair

SONY VGN-CS118E DC Jack Repair
This sony VGN-CS118E laptop came in with a broken power plug.  On most Sony notebooks the small plastic circular barrel is missing and the two ground wires are exposed.  This means the dc jack will need to be replaced.
The CS118E needs to be almost completely taken apart to access the dc jack.  It uses a cable style connection with a dc jack soldered on the end.  We just de-solder the old broken tip and re-use the cable.  This is a very effective way to do it and let's us repair the jack for $65 instead of $85+.
If soldering isn't an option you could replace the entire cable style jack.  Once the jack is replaced the laptop is working like new again!

Gateway NV59 with a Broken DC Jack

Gateway NV59 dc jack repair
The gateway NV Series laptops are very common ones we see in our shop.  Now that gateway is owned by Acer they use the problematic six pin, 1.65mm dc jack Acer has been using for years.  The center voltage pin is very small and any hard use or slight stress can cause the jack to physically break like the picture shows.
The NV59 needs to be completely taken apart to the motherboard to access the dc plug.  It needs to be properly de-soldered and a new power jack installed.  If you don't have a good soldering iron this repair isn't recommended.
For $65 we replace the broken connection and get it like new again.

Toshiba Satellite L755 DC Power Jack Repair

This Toshiba L755 notebook came in with a very broken dc jack.  The customer reported tripping over the cord and physically breaking the power plug.  The casing that surrounds the jack inside and out was broken and needed to be glued back in place.  If available you could also replace the bottom casing instead of gluing.
The L755 is very similar to the L655 but with updated hardware like a Core i3 cpu and more.
The laptop needs to be completely taken apart to access the dc jack.  It uses a cable style power jack that plugs directly into the motherboard.  You could also just replace the tip of the cable jack if the cable is still intact but this requires soldering.
After the jack was replaced and the housing fixed the L755 powers on and charges the battery again.  We do this entire jack replacement service for $65 parts and labor.

Dell Inspiron 11z DC Power Jack Repair

The dell inspiron 11z is a 11" lcd netbook.  The one thing I don't like about this laptop is the lack of hard drive activity light and kinda cheap plastic casing.
This 11z came in with the power plug pushed back inside the laptop.  It uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard.  It needs to be completely taken apart down the main board to access the jack.
On this 11z the plastic housing that holds the dc jack into place was broken and needed a special glue to hold everything back in place.
The 11z falls under our standard $65 parts and labor rate.  Once put back together the notebook powers on and charges the battery again.

Toshiba L555 DC Power Jack Repair

The toshiba L555 laptop is just the L505 but with a larger 17" screen. It also uses a different power plug than the L505.
The customer reported no power to the laptop and suspected the dc jack. When I initially plugged it in it didn't feel overly loose or broken. I couldn't get it to power on off of AC or battery power.
The L555 notebook needs to be completely taken apart and the motherboard removed to access the dc jack.
It uses a cable style dc jack but unlike many other Toshiba laptops it's soldered directly onto the motherboard vs. being plugged in.
It has four solder points that need to be properly de-soldered and a new jack soldered on. If you don't have the proper skills or tools this is something you shouldn't attempt.
Once replaced the laptop works like new again!

Dell XPS L502X DC Power Jack Repair

This Dell XPS L502X laptop came in with a physically broken dc jack. The customer reported dropping the laptop from a low level onto the power cord area while plugged in. The laptop would still work on AC when plugged in but wouldn't charge the battery. Upon start up a message would appear that the ac adapter type can't be identified but it would still run the laptop.
The L502z notebook needs to be completely taken apart to access the power plug. It uses a cable style dc jack that plugs directly into the motherboard. The cable jack is uses is kind of rare so the total was $105 with parts and labor.
After the laptop was taken apart it was confirmed the jack was physically broken and needed brand new replacement.
Once replaced the laptop powers and charges the battery.
